About Us
Leith Hill Trail Runners is a not-for-profit company, set up by experienced off-road athletes, Ian Giles and Dan Andrew, to organise trail running events in the area around Leith Hill, which, at 965 feet, is the highest point in South-East England. (It’s over 1,000 feet if you climb the tower!)
We currently organise the Leith Hill Half Marathon and the UK Wife Carrying Race and in future years we hope to launch a 10k trail event for those building up to the half marathon distance.
Our aim is to showcase the thrill of off-road trails in the Surrey Hills for runners looking for something challenging and memorable. First-timers will be warmly welcomed, as well as the many who return year after year to test themselves against the hills.
We are proud of our reputation for a really challenging half marathon route, good organisation and outstanding marshals, who often appear in very out of the way places to offer support and jelly babies. The UK Wife Carrying Race is a unique 'warm-up act' for the half marathon so get to the start early to watch one of the oddest races you will ever see.
We use a local school as Race HQ, choose local suppliers when possible, and encourage everyone to car share or take public transport. We also donate our profits (taking nothing out for ourselves) to a local charity, Mid Surrey Community Fridges. They work tirelessly to rescue good, surplus food from supermarkets and stores so it can be shared with our local community. We donated our £1,420 profit to them in 2025 and hope to donate even more in 2026.
